How do I make VNC display KDE desktop?

Hi everyone,
I'm having a heck of a time getting VNC viewer (running on any of my
Windows98 clients) to display my KDE desktop on my FreeBSD machine.
It displays twm just fine, but not KDE.
I've followed the steps outlined at
http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/UTCS/online-docs/Xvnc_docs/faq.html
Q21.

I've also tried making the ~/.vnc/xstartup a symlink to ~/.xinitrc,
which of course has the entry startkde.

Neither of these steps seem to beworking for me, VNC just ignores the
xstartup script from what I can see.
I don't see any error messages, or obvious problem in my vnc logfile
either.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Tim, I had about the same problem, but with Gnome. I went to the user
home directory (user name under which vncserver was run). You should find
a ".vnc" subdirectory (ie hidden) under that, and in there an xstartup
file. Edit that xstartup file. Take out the reference to twm and insert
the ref for KDE - . For Gnome it is "gnome-session". Then close and
restart the vncserver and with luck it will work just like mama said.

Just what you probably found in the FAQs.

However, the keyword wasn't mentioned in the FAQ. This next was taken
from a Linux Journal article:

Configuring a VNC Server

The VNC server also must be running, and it must be configured to run
your preferred window manager. This is accomplished by editing the file
$HOME/.vnc/xstartup to call your preferred window manager. Use startkde &
for KDE, gnome-session & for GNOME or fvwm2 & for FVWM2. Also, make sure
you have run vncpasswd in $HOME/.vnc/passwd to create the password file.

It gives a full login.
