Hi,
I just installed the vncserver 4.1.2 on Friday and am attermpting to
setup a session and then connect to that session on the same PC for a test.

Select VNC Server 4 (User-Mode), Run VNC Server

Have ICON VNC Server (User) 192.168.2.98

Then attempt to connect to the session from the same PC
RealVNC; VNC Viewer 4; Run VNC Viewer
Connection Details 192.168.2.98:0
Enter password

Windows Task Manager show 46 processes running and numerous windows pop
up on screen

What's going on????
Do I have a setting wrong?
I'm just trying to test the connection, are you allowed to connect as a
viewer on the same PC running the server?

I use VNC server periodically on solaris, but need to access a windows app.

Thanks in advance ..... Judy

What you're seeing is the infamous "hall of mirrors" effect... you're seeing
a window showing your screen showing a window showing your screen, etc ad
infinitum. It's not really a good idea to connect to your desktop from
itself.

If you connect via VNC to your own desktop, you get an endless loop: the VNC
viewer window will show your desktop with VNC viewer window, which shows
your desktop with VNC viewer window, which shows your desktop... etc. It's
the same effect as when you direct a video camera to a monitor showing the
picture from exactly that camera. Maybe that's what's happening to you.

Thanks for the responses.
Yes, the issue was that I was attempting to test via making a
connection to myself.
When running on solaris, vncserver and vncview can be run on the same
machine as the desktop is unique to the vncserver session.
It was quite a different response doing similar actions on windows XP.
I connected to the vnc server session via another host and all is
well.
Thanks again ...... Judy
