Connecting with a RoadRunner IP from the Internet

I am somewhat of a novice at VNC, and need someone to steer me in the right
direction. I just finished setting up VNC on a home network at my
Mother-In-Law's home last week. It worked fine while I was on her network,
using either her RR IP address or the local IP address as assigned in the
Linksys Router. The problem is that I can't connect from an outside Internet
location. Her IP is on RoadRunner, and begins with 66.26.XXX.XXX. Is there
something special about this IP address that prevents me from outside access?
I have the identical setup with my home network, and have no problem accessing
it from the Internet, even with a dynamic IP that I have to update and
monitor. My IP starts with 216.xxx.xxx.xxx, and I don't know enough about IPs
to know if there is a difference. Is there anyone out there who can explain
this to me in simple terms? Thanks! Dave

You need to port forward port 5900 in the router to her pc's inside IP Address.

I cant remeber what this is called in linksys terminology it may be
called applications or something like that. Google around a bit for
port forwarding and your specific router and you chould be able to
find helkp on how to enable a forward.

just remember it is port 5900.

Good Luck,
Angelo

P.S. what i suspect is happening is that somehow your computer is
configuring the router via UP'nP for you while her computer is not.

PPS. instead of monitoring your ip you can get yourself a free domain
name mapped to your dynamic ip by going to the dynadns website or the
www.no-ip.com website
